Ysgol Cefn Coch is situated in the village of Penrhyndeudraeth in Gwynedd. Welsh is the main medium of the school’s life and work. There are 157 pupils between 3 and 11 years old on roll, including 20 part-time nursery age pupils. They are divided into seven classes. The school was last inspected in June 2018 with an overall inspection judgment of excellent.

Along with Ysgol Talsarnau, Ysgol Cefn Coch is a part of the Afon Dwyryd Schools Federation. The schools federated in September 2022 after working closely together since 2016. The federation was established to enhance collaboration and cooperation between the two schools. Under this federation, they now share one strategic head and one governing body, allowing for better coordination and decision-making. While the schools work closely together, they still maintain their own individual identities and retain separate uniforms, reflecting their unique characteristics and traditions. This federation has created a strong partnership, enabling the schools to benefit from shared resources, expertise, and a unified vision for providing quality education to our students.
