Well-being and happiness
We are kind and respect the feelings, emotional and physcial well-being of every member of the school’s family, so that everyone feels safe. In caring for ourselves and each other in a supportive and safe ethos we will ensure that learners thrive and are eager to learn.
Non-negotiable aspects
Our aim is to enrich and expand our curriculum via learning opportunities through experience in our local area and beyond. Our learners have a right to a variety of elements that we cannot waiver that enrich their personal development.
- Learners who enjoy learning: The most important matter to usin planning is to ensure that the learners enjoy and have fun when learning. We therefore work hard here to ensure that the learning experiences are interesting and stimulating and that our teaching and work relationship with the learners elicit enthusiasm and enjoyment.
- The Welsh language and culture: Welsh is the school’s day-to-day operational language. At school our learners celebrate the Welsh language, culture, and heritage of Wales throughout their work. We ensure that we incorporate the Language Charter principles in all aspects of our curriculum.
- Health and Well-being: At this school we strongly believe that ensuring and supporting the willingness of learners to learn is integral to this end and we welcome the equal emphasis on every Area of Learning and Experience and that they include Health and Well-being. The school will continue to develop its expertise in this Area. – as a ‘Trauma informed School’ and use of programmes such as ‘ELSA’ and ‘Seasons of Growth’. In addition to the mental/emotional side, one of our aims is to enable every child to be taught in the area of physical literacy and to enjoy participating in sports and physical activity throughout their lives. We are also continuously evolving the climate of classrooms, Growth Mindset and Learning Powers. The school’s work with families and external agencies also supports this.
- Inclusion and ALN: We are proud of inclusion, and we operate a friendly communication. Our General Provision includes whole class learning, effective differentiation, cooperative group work, individual interventions and small groups, appropriate and reasonable adaptations to enable access to the environment, curriculum and school facilities. During their period in our schools the majority of learners will undertake the expected progress in their learning from their starting places. If a child does not make progress, we will gather the observations, use assessment data and will try to work jointly with external agencies, professionals and parents/carers to note any additional learning needs.
- Rich experiences within and outside the class: Developing independent and curious learners through various activities within and outside the classroom Is paramount.
- Professional Development of our staff: Excellent teaching is essential if we are to realise the four purposes, our vision as a school and the requirements of the Curriculum Framework. The school is a learning institution. We work with other teachers locally to improve our practice. This means that we continuously Research, learn and teach effectively and place an emphasis on professional teaching and practice based on research to develop and improve our teaching skills.
